Pic of Jenks Oxford at work

At Jenks we believe in doing the right job for you and your trees and we provide a comprehensive range of tree services to cater for your needs. We don't do lopping and topping but we do carry out works in accordance with the British Standard (3998:1989 Recommendations for Tree Work) and as outlined by the industries governing body The Arboricultural Association. This means that you are getting the right advice and best tree care.

At an initial appointment, one of our expert tree surgeons will carry out an assessment of your trees and discuss with you various options of work to meet yours and the trees needs. You will then be sent a no obligation quote. Upon acceptance of the quote we will arrange to send a team of arborists to carry out the works at time that is suitable for you . On arrival, they will talk through the works to be carried out and complete a site specific risk assessment of the site. We remove all arisings from the work. Branches are processed through a wood chipper and then is recycled. Timber is cut into sections suitable for manual handling and removed from site, again to be recycled. At the quotation stage we will discuss with you various options should you wish to keep any woodchip (ideal for mulching beds) or wood which we can process to a suitable size be it split for logs or planked for timber where appropriate.

Here is a list of some of the services that we can provide. Please feel free to contact us now to get a free site visit where we can discuss and assess your needs.

Tree felling and removal - Most trees are typically dismantled in sections, using rigging if necessary to lower the branches to the ground. Sometimes trees may be felled directly fell trees in the right circumstances.

Diseased and unstable trees - We can identify tree diseases and unstable trees, assess the hazard potential of them, and carry out the appropriate work to make them safe. We can provide an emergency call out service for particularly dangerous trees that have failed limbs or have fallen into the road. For unstable, dead or dying trees we can use a MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) to carry out the sectional felling safely.

Emergency work - Please contact us now for a priority response. 0800 4583328. We can carry out works on fallen trees or limbs that are in the road or have damaged property. Our staff are qualified to erect the correct signage in accordance with NRSWA, (New Roads and Street Works Act), and are highly experienced for working on or by highways. We hope to provide an immediate call out service.

 Pruning operations:

  • Reductions - This is the correct way to make a tree smaller as opposed to "topping". A tree that is topped can result in an unhealthy, unsitely and dangerous tree. The correct procedure for reducing a tree can involve pruning the entire canopy  by cutting back the tips of branches to a maximum of 30%. This will leave you with a well balanced, healthy tree that will look good with enhanced longevity. If a "tree surgeon" offers to top your trees then we would recommend not using them!
  • Crown lift - This raises the canopy of a tree by removing the lowest branches. This can help to increase the light under the tree, take away intrusive branches over buildings, away from roads or street lights.
  • Crown clean - This is the removal of major deadwoood, crossing, rubbing, diseased and damaged branches from within the canopy. This could also include the removal of epicormic growth, (small straight shoots on the trunk or main stems), and ivy.
  • Crown thin - Tree canopies can become incredibly dense with foliage and branches. A crown thin will help to increase light through and into the canopy by removing small branches, thus providing a more even leaf cover and allowing the stronger stems to mature.

Tree surveys and reports - Our highly qualified arborists can carry out survey work on single or multiple trees and produce reports for government agencies or insurance purposes. There is no obligation for us to carry out tree works and we will not recommend unnecessary action.

Stump removal and treatment - We have various machines to remove the resultant stumps left from felling a tree or older stumps that have regenerated or are simply in the way. Typically the grinding machine will take the stump down sufficiently below ground level that it will no longer be a hinderence and regeneration is unlikey. Any remaining roots will decay over time. We would be happy to prepare the ground after grinding for grass or other purposes. The grindings produced can make an excellent garden mulch.
There is also the option of treating stumps to inhibit regrowth and allow the stump to decay over time.
You may be interested in turning larger stumps into a garden feature such as a chair or table. Please ask our creative arborists upon quotation.

Planting - We are happy to provide advice and works for planting, be it a single tree, hedge or a complete landscape scheme. We can source the very best trees and plants and provide the right aftercare and maintenance schedule.

Landscaping - Beginning with an inspired and considered design, through to quality construction and then to expert aftercare, our team can create the landscape of your dreams.
Our work may involve one or more of the following services: * turfing * planting * paving * wall building * arbour construction * water features * hedge trimming
Our initial visit will be FREE and we will be pleased to offer the benefit of all our years experience whilst taking the brief for your project.
The job size does not matter, be it the design of a commercial area or county park, or the cutting of a hedge in a garden, we will be equally pleased for the job.
From organic materials such as plants or wooden posts, to bricks and water pumps, we have the contacts and expertise to buy the best. We know what to look out for and how to avoid inferior plants or products.

Fencing - When it comes to fencing there are two golden rules that we follow: quality materials and quality construction. Cut corners and instead of a fence maturing into a pleasing part of the garden architecture, it will cause irritation for the years it manages to survive. There are various types of fencing including close board, panel, picket, post and rail, and screen fencing along with gates and trellis.
